Connect smart LED lighting network: intelligent building integrated intelligent lighting

LED semiconductor lighting network news At present, LED lights in addition to lighting, there are more uses. When combined with a low-voltage IP-based infrastructure that connects to intelligent networks, LED lighting becomes part of a powerful system network that works together to collect, analyze, manage, control, and respond to set targets and real-time sensor feedback. The resulting "smart building" is more comprehensive in terms of operational performance because it can dynamically respond to operational problems, thereby increasing efficiency while conserving power and cost.

How does integrated smart lighting work with other systems? What technology is needed to integrate the system and maximize benefits? This article will provide an in-depth discussion on connecting smart lighting and infrastructure technologies.

Intelligent LED lighting network

The basic premise of connecting a smart LED network is that the lighting control is transferred from one centralized and relatively common way through most of the building space to another solution, which is aimed at the smaller, specific needs of the building. More importantly, because lighting is part of an intelligent network, it integrates (and can respond to) other components on the network. This applies in particular to commercial office buildings, medical facilities, warehouses, manufacturing and industrial facilities, and similar large or multi-purpose spaces where integrated methods are not feasible or inefficient.

Consider buildings that use automatic heating, ventilation, and air conditioning control (HVAC). HVAC monitors and adjusts the temperature to match the human body's comfort and machine performance, as well as optimal efficiency and cost. Connecting a smart LED lighting network will allow illumination to be synchronized with these same targets. This is accompanied by the response of the light to ambient temperature control. Therefore, connecting intelligent lighting networks will enable network users to increase productivity, positive emotions, concentration and happiness by adjusting lighting. It also has the potential to synchronize human physiological cycles to illuminate and enhance or reduce the amount of illumination required based on the amount of sunlight outside the window.

LED lighting and PoE

The key technology for intelligent LED lighting networks is Internet Powered (PoE), a low-voltage cable and device that connects the Internet of Things (IoT) to LED devices. PoE is simple because of the success of IP-based infrastructure platforms. By using PoE as the backbone of the LED lighting power and control system, the lighting is incorporated into the building as an IoT asset. In addition to the huge advantage of powering and providing data to a single-tier infrastructure, PoE costs less than copper cables. As shown in Figure 1, the PoE system architecture includes the following devices, which we discuss in the next section:

PoE gateway

When the computer and network interface control the management layer of the PoE network, the startup of any integrated LED lighting system relies heavily on the device layer and the system component layer used to fabricate the network. The PoE gateway is the device at the core of the system. These gateways can connect, control, and power lighting fixtures. They control LED lighting functions, including dimming, color grading, and sensor reporting. These gateways deliver up to 60W of performance. If higher power is required, such as a patio light, an AC line voltage (120VAC–277VAC) is required, and the equipment can be controlled by a wireless line voltage relay.

In the IP industry, the standard for advanced telecommunications computing architectures (ATCA or AdvancedTCA) is 48 VDC. Due to this standard, the following configuration is naturally performed for the POE gateway:

·Unconstrained 48VDC

· Constant voltage 24VDC/48VDC

·Constant current

A wireless PoE gateway conforming to the IEEE 802 standard can also be used. They operate on standard frequencies (902MHz in North America and 868MHz in Europe). In general, the effective range is about 15m. They allow secure two-way communication for the control state of multiple wireless devices without the designer having to pay attention to interference from other devices.

LED lighting equipment

The LED lighting fixture itself is a key support component of the system. Appliances rely on the choice of specific LED lighting. In LED lighting systems without smart connections and networking, LEDs are an alternative to traditional lighting. Compared to incandescent or fluorescent lamps, the inherent performance of LEDs demonstrates efficiency advantages. However, connecting intelligent lighting systems increases the level of the entire system. They use and add PoE gateways, lighting control sensors and advanced network management software systems to provide a lot of feedback and control for the system. This enhancement makes the lighting itself human-centric and can be controlled according to the data, analysis and decision criteria of the network users.

LED manufacturers continue to increase efficiency (lm/W) and reduce the cost per lumen ($/lm). There are many examples of LED manufacturers offering superior products to lighting fixture suppliers:

Cree is the industry leader in lighting LEDs, creating the XLAMP XHP70.2 ultra-high power LEDs for low system cost through high lumen density, reliability and color consistency. It offers improved lumen density, voltage characteristics, reliability and optical performance in a 7.0mm x 7.0mm package.

Lumileds has developed a high power, multimode transmitter LUXEON MX LED module that makes patio lights and other outdoor applications more cost effective and more reliable. It delivers up to 150 lm/W in a 12VDC configuration and 1200 lumens at 85°C.
