Tuner classification and ON Semiconductor tuner solutions

Car tuners are vehicle-mounted devices used to receive FM / AM broadcasts, and are divided into analog tuners, digital tuners, and data tuners. Analog tuner is a traditional system onboard tuner for basic models; digital tuner is for mid-to-high-end models, suitable for digital radios, with higher signal reception quality and easier to use, becoming the current trend; data tuner can receive Traffic information, wireless data broadcasting system (RDS) / China real-time traffic information (RTIC), suitable for all models.

In actual use, if the same FM broadcast signal arrives at the receiving terminal at different times, multi-channel distortion noise will be generated. ON Semiconductor's DSP tuner uses the unique intellectual property of the continuous modulus algorithm (ConTInues Modulus Algorithm, referred to as CMA) technology, which can greatly reduce multi-channel noise. ON Semiconductor also has another intellectual property right for multi-channel noise-the mature dual-tuner adaptive array antenna (adapTIve-array-antenna, AAA) technology, and plans to launch subsequent products.

Specifically, CMA is a multi-channel noise suppression technology for a single tuner. Compared with the traditional technology, the additional feedback type can avoid the occurrence of false ghosts, and greatly improve the multi-channel noise receiving speed under various conditions; the change of the evaluation function / coefficient update formula greatly improves the receiving speed, effectively preventing FB Side divergence. Figure 2 compares the multi-channel noise cancellation performance of CMA and AAA technologies with the traditional single-tuner technology.
