Seoul Semiconductor: Winning AOT litigation with LED lighting manufacturer

Seoul Semiconductor ("SeoulSemiconductor Co., Ltd."), Korea's largest manufacturer of environmentally friendly lighting technology for light-emitting diodes (LEDs), announced that it has won a patent lawsuit against Taiwan's LED lighting technology manufacturer AOT. The incident originated from the AOT admission court, and the application for the "warm white LED" environmental lighting technology of Seoul Semiconductor was invalid in Taiwan. This time's victory has once again demonstrated that Seoul Semiconductor's "warm white LED" advanced environmental lighting technology and its original patent rights are recognized worldwide. In addition, Seoul Semiconductor's patent litigation in Korea and its companies such as Itswell and MedianaElectronics also won the case.
Since 2002, Taiwan's AOT has begun to invade Seoul's first "warm white LED" environmentally friendly lighting technology in Korea. In August 2005, the Seoul Central District Court (SeoulCentralDistrictCourt) ruled that Seoul Semiconductor won the lawsuit and ruled that AOT infringed Seoul Semiconductor's "warm white LED" environmental lighting technology.

In November 2006, Korea’s Intellectual Property Court (Intellectual PropertyTribnal) rejected AOT’s claim to revoke Seoul Semiconductor’s Korean patent registration. In August 2007, Taiwan's Intellectual Property Court (Intellectual PropertyTribnal) rejected the AOT's claim to invalidate Seoul Semiconductor's patent rights.


Seoul Semiconductor's "warm white LED" environmental lighting technology can be widely used in high-quality and high-performance LED lighting technology products, including: flashlights, general lighting, automotive lighting and mobile phone buttons, etc., in Japan, the United States, China and Major countries and regions such as Taiwan have completed registration patents.

As a result of the lawsuit, it is believed that Seoul Semiconductor will strengthen its patent rights and business expansion in the future. In particular, Seoul Semiconductor’s “warm white LED” environmental protection lighting technology, which can be widely used in the mobile phone market, will have a turnover. It reached 760 million US dollars, accounting for about 40% of the overall market share.
