China's telecommunications giant Huawei said it will continue to invest in the United States despite recent setbacks in the US. Xu Qinsong, director of sales and marketing at Huawei, told reporters in Shenzhen on Tuesday that he believes that Huawei’s smartphone sales in the US will triple this year.
According to a news report in January this year, Huawei may sign an agreement with US telecommunications giant AT&T, which appears to be entering the lucrative US market, but the transaction was eventually aborted due to pressure from the US government. Huawei executive Xu Qinsong said on Tuesday that the United States said: "I don't know why they are so nervous, they are too nervous."
Some models of Huawei's products are currently sold on the US e-commerce platform and online, but the market share in the US is small. In the United States, most of the sales of telecommunications products are conducted through operators. Globally, Huawei's smartphone shipments are still behind Samsung and Apple, but it is the largest market leader in China. Huawei said it expects the company's smartphone shipments to reach 150 million this year. Huawei is the world's largest manufacturer of telecommunications equipment, and it suffered a setback in the US market earlier.
A report from the US Congress in October 2013 stated that Huawei products are a security risk and warned telecom operators not to use Huawei equipment.
