What is the significance of setting an industry standard? What is the current state of development of the LED industry in Foshan? In the upcoming 12th Five-Year Plan, how should Foshan develop LED? With these questions, the reporter interviewed Chairman of Foshan Lighting Association and Wu Yulin, general manager of Casio Lighting Design Co., Ltd. of Foshan City.

Industry standards, after all, just a test

Southern Reporter (hereinafter referred to as South Metropolis): What are the contents of LED Downlight Standards issued at the end of the year?

Wu Yulin: It mainly includes lamp life, light intensity, area and lamp size matching parameters. In the current market, your production life of 10,000 hours is also considered LED, and my production life of 30,000 hours is also considered as LED. In the end who is right? Need standards to speak.

Nandu: Why did you choose to make a downlight standard?

Wu Yulin: First-rate enterprises do standards, second-rate companies do brands, and third-rate companies do products. At present, more than 90% of companies in Foshan only manufacture products. The lack of standards leads to market confusion. The downlight is the most advantageous LED project in Foshan, a single area in the South China Sea, a downlight accounted for 30% of the national market share.

Our standard, after all, is just an experiment. It is not mandatory. The four companies led by us were the first to take the lead, and other companies voluntarily participated. Standards require market testing, and awareness of standards in the industry is more important than the standard itself.

Nandu: What is the key to the future development of Foshan LED?

Wu Yulin: The key is to find its own characteristics and advantages, and develop with Shenzhen, Zhongshan, Huizhou and other competitors. In the LE D industry, the chip is the brain, the package is the body, and the application design is two feet. Judging from the current market conditions, Shenzhen, Huizhou and other regions have an advantage in terms of chips, and Foshan has its own characteristics in terms of both packaging and application. Guoxing Optoelectronics ranks first in the nation's LED packaging.

This is like Tian Ji's horse racing. The package is our top horse, the application is a medium horse, and the chip is a down horse. We must not blindly follow the trend to expand the size of the chip and enterprise. We must first lose the chip. But this does not mean giving up the chip, we just open up the Foshan LED market as a whole and go back and add the chip.

Nandu: The chips are the brains of the industry. We concentrate on developing our bodies and feet. What should the brain do?

Wu Yulin: The brain can borrow. We develop our own characteristics, play our own brand, and go to cooperate with domestic or foreign chip companies. Self-growth in the process of taking advantage of the brain, always stand at the forefront of the market, South Korea's Samsung has grown up like this, in the creation of packaging, application and other characteristics of the plate must also pay attention to the accumulation of chip technology, which is called the weaknesses.

Nandu: What is the status of Foshan LED market?

Wu Yulin: There are currently more than 120 companies in Foshan engaged in the production and support of LED products, and more than 110 have joined the association. This year, the export volume of LED lamps in Foshan will double year-on-year, and the market outlook is very good. However, most of the enterprises in Foshan have switched from traditional lighting to LED lighting. They have their own production standards. This has led to market dominance, high-end and low-end fighting, but in fact the domestic LED market has not yet been opened.

The current development of LED is more applied to public facilities such as street lamps, and it is relying on the government's "transfusion" to maintain development. The government's initial support is indispensable, but the market's "blood-making" ability is fundamental.

Southern Capital: How then should the government help the market to produce "hematopoietic" functions?

Wu Yulin: What the government needs to do is standards and monitoring. The current industry lacks standards and the market environment is complex. The standards we set ourselves are not mandatory and require the government to regulate them.

This is an emerging industry. It is a century-long career. As a long-term investment plan, it takes 3-5 years or even longer to see results. The government must have long-term vision and patience. If Foshan grows in this piece, LED will become a new card for Foshan as well as ceramics, flooring, and kung fu.
