LGD purchases two vapor deposition machines, one step closer to Apple OLED

Korean panel maker LG Display (LGD) is actively vying for Apple orders, but it is limited by the lack of vacuum machines needed to produce OLEDs. The latest news pointed out that LGD successfully bought two devices, which is a step closer to Apple's big single.

Korean media Investor quoted the Bell report as saying that the evaporation machine built by the Japanese factory Canon Tokki is the mainstream instrument for producing small and medium-sized OLEDs. Due to the scarcity of production, although the asking price is as high as 130 billion won ($114 million), it is still vying for competition. . Each vaporizer can produce about 15,000 sixth-generation OLED panels per month for smart machines.

Recently, LGD purchased two Canon Tokki vapor deposition machines, which are scheduled to be installed in December this year and February next year, so that Apple orders will be added. Although the new equipment can accelerate the pace of LGD production, it is still expected that LGD will not be able to squeeze into the Apple OLED supply chain until 2019. Before this, Samsung Electronics' Samsung Display will take orders for Apple.

At present, LGD has only one Canon Tokki vapor deposition machine with limited production. LGD was eager to expand production and was forced to find a factory in South Korea to design and manufacture its own steaming machine. However, due to lack of experience, the yield of self-made models could not be improved.

Korean media Investor reported on April 26, it is understood that the LGD yield problem is due to the limited production of OLED production equipment sold by the Japanese factory Canon Tokki. Canon Tokki almost monopolizes the OLED production equipment market. The company works closely with Samsung Display. Five of the seven devices manufactured this year were ordered by Samsung. LGD and China's panel maker BOE only grabbed one.

LGD had no choice but to find a Korean factory Sunic System to build OLED production equipment. However, both companies are producing smart OLEDs for the first time. It is said that Apple is not assured that Canon Tokki equipment must be used for the name, so Canon Tokki equipment will be used to meet Apple orders, and Sunic System equipment may be supplied to Chinese operators. It is understood that Canon Tokki will build ten sets of equipment next year, Samsung has set five, and LG production will depend on the availability of several equipment.
