Loewe creative director Bodo Sperlein revealed his latest attempt to “de-geezer the TV†for the Bild X concept at the Consumer Electronics Show IFA Berlin this week.
Bild X has a slim and slightly flexible display #x2013; the function is enabled because its electrical components are hidden from the screen.
It can also use OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology, which produces a thinner screen than LEDs or LCDs.
OLED is the most popular display type for high-end TVs released by IFA in 2017.
Sperlein #x2013; a London-based designer who has been the creative director of the German electronics brand Loewe since 2016 #x2013; #xA0BE; Lies OLED offers the opportunity to “substantially change television aesthetics†from the Cathode ray tube displays to flat screens of the 1920s.
Sperlein said: "OLED foil will put the TV design to another level.
Despite this, Sperlein and Loewe did not hide the thinness of OLEDs in their surrounding televisions, but instead aimed to create a device that was "dramatically focused" in the room.
It can be seen from the Bild 9 design launched earlier this year. Referring to the Bauhaus and Art Deco style, Spelainen calls it "Go to TV."
Its successor, Bild X, has a display suspended in a thin metallic metallic frame. Sperlein claimed that the design was inspired by how the sailboat was attached to the mast.
Frames and televisions can be mounted on a wall or placed on a support with a stone platform at the bottom as a texture contrast.
Thanks to the plastic OLED panel, the display itself is light and flexible, so it can be easily moved into and out of the frame.
Loewe is exploring the best way to hide the required cables and electronic components from the design, whether it means enclosing it in the base of the stand or adding other components such as cabinets to the design.
It is also investigating the best speaker options for Bild X #x2013; although the best approach may follow Sony's footsteps, Sony made the loudspeaker redundant on its top OLED TV by making the world's first acoustic shaker.
Bild X was on display at the Loewe booth at the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) in Berlin from September 1st to 6th.
Also on display at the show is the Sanbao brand LED frame TV, designed by Yves Behar and released earlier this year. Contrary to the Loeweaposs Bild model, it aims to make television “disappearing in decorationâ€.
