NASA's Mars survival simulation project ends today, with six people living in isolation for a year

According to foreign media reports, NASA's one-year-long Mars survival simulation project ended today. This is the third Mars survival simulation experiment conducted by NASA and the longest one. The results of the experiment will provide valuable insights for the future Mars tour. The reference content.

The experimental project was called HI-SEAS (Hawaii Space Exploration Simulation and Simulation). A total of six volunteers participated, including one French astrobiologist, one German physicist, and the other four. The Americans are astronauts, architects, doctors, journalists, and soil scientists.

On August 29 last year, six volunteers came to the barren northern slopes of Mauna Loa, Hawaii. This place has no animals and has scarce vegetation. It is very similar to the Martian landscape.

On the north slope of the Mauna Loa volcano, they live in a dome-shaped house with a diameter of 36 feet (about 11 meters) and a height of 20 feet (about 6 meters). Volunteers live in the dome and are almost isolated from the outside world. They can only communicate with the outside world via e-mail, and the communication time is deliberately delayed by 20 minutes to simulate the actual transmission from Mars to the earth. Team members can leave the dome but must wear heavy spacesuits.

The living materials in the dome are very limited. Food is provided every four months, and water is supplied every two months. The research team also conducted a series of possible emergency simulations, including power outages, tool damage, forced evacuation under intense radiation waves, and so on.

It is reported that independent filmmakers have begun to conduct interviews with volunteers, will be made into a documentary called "Red Heaven" (Red Heaven), for ordinary people to present volunteers in the daily life of "Mars".
