After nearly 100 years of development, the semiconductor lighting industry has now entered the stage of rapid development and industrial integration. In the increasingly fierce international competition, China's semiconductor lighting industry will face what development opportunities. On June 25th, at the cross-strait LED lighting industry and discussion meeting, Ms. Wu Ling, Secretary General of National Semiconductor Lighting Engineering R&D and Industry Alliance, conducted a macro analysis of the development opportunities of China's semiconductor lighting industry.
Secretary Wu Ling’s report pointed out that the LED industry in mainland China has grown by more than 20% for ten consecutive years. In 2009, there were more than 3,000 LED companies in the mainland, and a complete industrial chain has been formed. In 2009, the output value of the industry was 83 billion. It is estimated that the total output value of the industry in 2010 will be 100 billion yuan, and in 2015 it will reach 500 billion yuan.
Secretary Wu Ling believes that the opportunities for the development of the semiconductor lighting industry in mainland China are mainly:
First, mainland China is an emerging market with great potential. China is a major producer, consumer and exporter of traditional lighting industry; China's urbanization process is further accelerating; China has a “human-machine interface†of 1.3 billion people.
Second, China's semiconductor lighting industry has a certain technical and industrial base. Based on the foundation of traditional lighting and semiconductor industry, China has the corresponding manufacturing technology and production capacity, and has formed a complete R&D system. Mainland enterprises have switched from OEM to ODM mode and began to focus on the construction of independent brands.
Third, the government is determined to save energy and reduce emissions and cultivate strategic emerging industries. The semiconductor lighting industry is a strategic emerging industry for energy conservation and emission reduction. According to industry experts, in 2015, the efficacy of LED lamps can reach 120 lm / W, LED lighting accounts for more than 20% of the lighting market, saving 100 billion kWh per year, can reduce CO2, SO2, NOx, dust emissions 1.5 Billion tons. In 2015, the power saving will be 100 billion kWh, and 21 power plants of 1 million kW will be built less, and 30% of new power stations will be reduced. In 2020, it will save 300 billion kWh of electricity, and it will build 73 towers of 1 million kilowatts of power. There is no need to add new power stations. The semiconductor lighting industry is one of the important ways to transform the economic development mode and cultivate new economic growth points. It has the characteristics and advantages of low resource energy consumption, large driving coefficient and large employment demand.
Fourth, China is a major resource resource. China's gallium reserves are about 136,600 tons, accounting for 75% of the world's total. In 2008, the output was 40 tons, and the domestic LED uses about 2 tons of gallium, which can be used for more than 3,000 years. China's indium reserves are about 13,000 tons, accounting for 75% of the world's total. In 2008, the output was 214.9 tons, and domestic LEDs used 150 kilograms of indium, which can be used for more than 60 years.
Fifth, the investment intensity and risk of the LED industry is much lower than that of microelectronics. Even for the upstream with the largest capital needs, the investment required by larger companies is only one-tenth of that of the microelectronics industry. In addition, social and private capital investment is active. By the end of 2008, China's LED private and joint ventures accounted for 80% of the total. At the end of 2009, the total investment scale of the country was nearly 20 billion yuan.
The sixth and third generation of semiconductor materials can enhance the core competitiveness of the next generation of information technology. The third generation of wide-bandgap semiconductor materials, Si, GaAs and GaN, as the first major breakthrough in semiconductor lighting, can drive the development of consumer electronics, automotive, solar photovoltaic, equipment manufacturing and raw materials. At the same time, it can promote the development of ultraviolet detector radar in the national defense field, optical communication, optical network and radio station in the information industry; optoelectronics can be applied to optical sensing, optical storage and laser, and can also promote electric vehicles, power transmission and transformation. The development of power electronics such as power microwave devices, therefore, semiconductor lighting will change the disparity between the photovoltaic and microelectronics industries.
