Bayer develops new polycarbonate material for LED lighting

Vienna, June 2011 – In the field of indoor and outdoor lighting applications, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) can be made smarter than other lighting technologies with only potential cost and energy-saving advantages. Bayer MaterialScience has long recognized this trend and is following trends by developing special grades of transparent polycarbonate Makrolon® materials. The lens made of this material is extremely light-transmissive and ensures that light is efficiently concentrated and oriented.

In addition, LED technology can also adjust the light color as needed. Therefore, LED lighting can significantly improve contrast and color rendering to achieve better visual effects in dark environments.

At Bayer's subsidiary in Vienna, Austria, its innovative facade lighting takes full advantage of these characteristics. LED spotlights developed by LEDworx GmbH, headquartered in Vienna, replaced the previously used metal halide lamps. The use of LED lights was aimed at improving the lighting conditions in front of buildings and building safer pedestrian walkways to reduce accidents and protect the safety of their employees and other pedestrians. LED fixtures have received many positive feedback since installation.

“The new LED luminaires have significant advantages in terms of channel brightness, and the lighting in the entire area is also very uniform,” said Thomas Zeiler, LEDworx’s sales director. “The most important thing is that the reduction of 25% in the load can still achieve these advantages. In other words, Energy efficiency is not inconsistent with improving quality."

Working with Bayer, CarlcoOptics is currently experimenting with the new Makrolon® LED2643 material and will be used to produce the lenses used in this project. Developed specifically for solid-state lighting (SSL) appliances, this material is extremely light transmissive and excellently resists the light emitted by LED lights. For lens applications for LED lighting fixtures, Bayer MaterialScience has developed a series of Makrolon® LED-specific products and other products.

EarHook Earphones

The ear-hook earphone refers to a kind of earphone that is added with an ear-hook on the side of the earphone for convenient use. Different from in-ear earphones, ear-hook earphones are a type of earphones and earbuds that are divided according to how they are worn. Design principle: the connection between the two units of the earphone and the wearing of the fixed beam can be canceled, with a beautiful hook to make it hang on the ear.

Advantages:

1: The way of ear hooks ensures the reliability of the user's wearing. In the design of earplugs, the unit is often enlarged to meet the needs of sound quality.

2: The design of the earhook fully demonstrates the design capabilities of the earphone manufacturer, from the design to the reliability of the wearing of the ergonomic design.
