Casio Computer and Letterpress will collaborate on the small and medium-sized display business, with the aim of mass production of OLED displays jointly developed by the two companies. On April 1, 2010, it will take over the small and medium-sized TFT LCD display business of Casio, OLED development equipment and employees engaged in development work. At the same time, the new company will take over all the shares of Casio's wholly-owned subsidiary, Kochi Casio, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary of the new company. At the same time, Casio will sell 80% of the new company's stock to letterpress.
Casio has the technology and manufacturing equipment related to small and medium-sized TFT liquid crystal displays, and is good at TFT-based OLED drive technology. Letterpress printing is good at microfabrication technology based on printing methods for OLED displays. The new company will combine the technology of the two companies to realize the mass production of high-quality, low-cost OLED displays as soon as possible, and make full use of the experience of the Casio display business to realize the development of OLED displays and to be listed as soon as possible.
The new company has a registered capital of 400 million yen and employs about 600 people. The company name and headquarters address have not been determined. The sales for the first year are expected to be approximately 35 billion yen. Ichiro Ichiro, who is scheduled to be the current executive director and component business department of Casio, is the president.
