As a semi-portal fan, I always try to improve my game experience on the hardware. With the mainstream of the mainstream configuration, wide enough sound field headphones, low-latency mouse. Of course, mechanical keyboards are also essential. As the saying goes, the operation is not enough peripherals.
Talking about the mechanical keyboard, Cherry is obviously an unavoidable brand. The German manufacturer not only owns a high-quality mechanical keyboard product line, but also the shaft body used by many keyboard manufacturers. Just last month, Cherry officially released the new MX-BOARD 9.0 in Shanghai – its first mechanical keyboard designed specifically for eSports.
However, the price of 1399 yuan is not cheap even for a mechanical keyboard. It is still used half-price gynecology - XT version of the Cooler Master Flame Gun series, because it is a foundry with Flico but the price is half of it. For the author's name, the author still saw some trembling at the price. How about the quality of this gaming keyboard? Is it worthy of their own high prices? More importantly, it is not suitable for game lovers to buy it?
The appearance of the design is slightly washed and blown
The design of the Cherry keyboard has always been very simple and calm, but MX-BOARD 9.0 has changed this style, and the alien shape is very pompous.
MX-BOARD 9.0 is black and the detail workmanship maintains the consistent high level of Cherry. The addition of wrist rest is also a plus. Its substrate is frosted and it is not susceptible to fingerprints and perspiration.
Compared with the wrist rest and the substrate, the feel of the keycap type skin is much more delicate, but Cherry still seems to have chosen ABS plastic. This material is less wear resistant than POM and PBT, so after a period of time it is prone to oiling - the original matte surface becomes smooth after being worn and looks like it is smeared with a layer of oil, affecting The overall appearance of the keyboard.
The bottom bracket of the MX-BOARD 9.0 is not a common snap, but a knob-type foothold. Compared with the former, this design brings more freedom in the support height, and the user can freely adjust according to his preferences.
As the saying goes, each kind of killer-style keyboard/mouse on the market naturally has its own reason. The design of MX-BOARD 9.0 may not be so exaggerated, but as far as the author's personal feelings, Cherry still looks a bit too user.
Multifunction knob: is the bright spot may also be tasteless
MX-BOARD 9.0's buttons use a low-key cap design, which is not a habit for users accustomed to high-key caps (such as the author himself).
Outside of the standard keyboard area, MX-BOARD 9.0 sets up to 15 macro buttons on the left and top positions, respectively, to meet the player's needs in this area.
At the same time, there is a huge knob in the upper right corner of the keyboard. The three buttons next to it are used to switch different functions of the knob, including backlight color/mode/brightness and system volume.
There are 4 additional function buttons below the knob area. Among them are the game mode key printed with the Cherry icon. After clicking, the system's Windows key and Alt + F4, Alt + Tab and Ctrl + Alt + Delete are shortcut keys. Locked to prevent the game from jumping out of the wrong touch. Next to the Cherry key is the multimedia playback control button.
If you have a certain understanding of the products of various manufacturers, you should find that this knob is not actually created by Cherry. Two years ago, the Das Keyboard 4 already brought similar functionality. In comparison, the large knob of MX-BOARD 9.0 is slightly inferior in appearance. Although using it to control the RGB backlight is a bit tedious (see below), but you want to adjust the volume during the game, this knob is actually quite useful.
Light Control Gospel: RGB Backlight
RGB backlighting is not new for gaming keyboards, but MX-BOARD 9.0 is the first Cherry keyboard with this feature.
As mentioned above, the RGB backlight of the MX-BOARD 9.0 is controlled by the multi-function knob, and the control method is somewhat tedious.
After pressing the light key (the top button on the right side of the knob), you can turn the knob to adjust the brightness of the backlight, or press the knob to control the backlight switch. To change the backlight color, you need to press the light key and the corresponding letter key at the same time (for example, the key B represents blue).
In addition, MX-BOARD 9.0 also provides a variety of lighting effects, including breathing, snakes and rainbow waves, etc. You can press the CPG button, and then click the knob to switch.
The addition of RGB backlight has been a wish for Cherry powder, but the backlight control of MX-BOARD 9.0 still makes people feel a bit troublesome. Cherry may be to save users the trouble of installing driver software, but this type of control method that depends on the knob is not as simple as it is. It is not as intuitive as software control.
Is the black axis really more suitable for games?
MX-BOARD 9.0 only has a black shaft as a shaft body. This is nothing wrong with being a gaming keyboard. But is the black shaft really suitable for the game? Or is it suitable for the type of game you prefer? This is actually worth studying.
The black shaft that goes straight up and down is considered to be the most suitable shaft for the game, but it should be noted that the black axis is also very heavy in grams. If you are not a strong diamond, the game you play requires frequent keystrokes - such as Warcraft. The melee career in the world, or all kinds of RTS games - but it is easy to have finger fatigue.
But having said that, the black axis is really suitable for most game types including FPS/TPS, MOBA, RPG and ACT, no matter if you like to make a stand-alone game or make a copy with a friend.
The author is a "World of Warcraft" 10-year-old player, I am basically satisfied with the use of MX-BOARD 9.0 in this game. But perhaps it is accustomed to their own green axis keyboard, the lack of black-sense paragraph sense and greater resistance still brings a slight discomfort. Of course, these are personal preferences.
As a high-end gaming keyboard, the MX-BOARD 9.0's full-key no-bump feature allows players to break through the limitations of the hardware, really to fight fast. Ordinary players may not use it, but it is still very important for some competitive games.
As a standard feature of another gaming keyboard, the MX-BOARD 9.0 offers up to 15 programmable macro buttons. However, because there is no driver control software, macro key editing is completely dependent on the user "blind". In use, you need to press the top MR button to start macro recording, click on the macro button you want to edit (M1-M12, and MA, MB, and MC on the left), then enter the content you want to enter, and finally click ME to end editing .
Taking into account the direct relationship between macro buttons and game manipulation, MX-BOARD 9.0 has more problems with RGB backlight control here. Not only can you not see if the macro content you have entered is accurate, but it is also a big challenge to completely remember these 15 macros.
Selecting the key to the axis
How to choose the axis? In the initial purchase of a mechanical keyboard, the author also did a lot of homework, what black axis is more suitable for the game, the green axis is more suitable for typing, the summary of the tea axis work and entertainment, etc. also saw a lot. As a text worker and gamer, what looks like a tea axis seems to suit my needs better? When I took home the house of Cherry's entry-level tea keyboard, I realized that I didn't like it.
For the author's personal experience with a limited number of mechanical keyboards, the feel of the tea axis and black axis is closer to the membrane keyboard, and the sense of passage is not obvious. If you want to experience the sensation of crackling on the keyboard (clear, clear trigger, sense of passage), these two axes may not be suitable for you. It was for this reason that the author then started a cool-keyed keyboard on the blue axis, and finally decided to consider the green axis as a lifelong love.
The black shaft may be more suitable for the game, but some people may not like it straight up and hard feelings. The Green Axis is also more suitable for text input, but for students still living in the bedroom, the noise generated during use will certainly affect the rest of the roommate.
For users who purchased a mechanical keyboard for the first time, following the trend can be said to be the biggest taboo. When you look at the text alone, you actually have a hard time realizing the difference in the feel of different axes, so the actual experience is very important.
All in all, before you buy a mechanical keyboard, you'd better do it yourself first.
Summary: The recharge has been faith
The author is not Cherry powder, can not understand their mood when they see such a standard gaming keyboard. Is it painful for it to abandon the traditional design styling? Still cheering for various game optimization features?
From an objective point of view, Cherry MX-BOARD 9.0 is indeed a very high quality mechanical keyboard, whether it is the overall work or button feel. Although there are some minor flaws - such as a slightly tasteless control knob and the lack of driver software - but basically do not hide.
Although the shape of MX-BOARD 9.0 was slightly exaggerated in the eyes of the writer, due to its excellent quality, this small defect is completely tolerable. But as a high-end gaming keyboard, it is destined to be only a few people's playthings.
If you are as price-sensitive as the author, you probably should know that the mechanical keyboard is more than a thousand dollars is basically playing belief. But if you love the black shaft and are a faithful user of Cherry, and you are willing to spend a lot of money in pursuit of the ultimate experience, then Cherry MX-BOARD 9.0 is a good choice.
