Global LED wafer production capacity will increase by 27% in 2012

According to the research agency's SEMI report, the global LED wafer manufacturing capacity in 2012 will grow by 27% compared to 2011, and it is expected to reach 2 million, among which Taiwan is estimated to account for about 25%, ranking first.

SEMI believes that thanks to the increasing popularity of LED TVs and the subsidy policy of the Chinese government and financial assistance to stimulate economic programs, the production capacity expansion of high-brightness LEDs continues to grow substantially, but with the adjustment of policies and changes in the general environment, 2012 The annual purchase amount of MOCVD machines in the world is expected to decline by 40%, and the number will also be significantly reduced compared with last year. Manufacturers will shift to the upgrade of existing machines, and LED-related equipment spending will also show the first decline in five years.

According to the SEMI analysis, in terms of regions, Taiwan's production capacity is expected to top 25% in the world in 2012, followed by 22% in mainland China; Billion dollars ranks first in the world, followed by Taiwan with 321 million U.S. dollars, while Japan and South Korea are immediately behind, with 300 million U.S. dollars and 260 million U.S. dollars, respectively.

Although the growth trend of the new fab has not changed, SEMI believes that there will be 29 new LED fabs worldwide in 2011. It is estimated that only 16 new fabs will be added in 2012.
