[High-tech LED News] Cambridge Semiconductor Ltd. recently introduced C3120 LED driver chip series C3121, C3122 and C3123 designed for 4W, 8W and 12W lighting. The company claims that the range is suitable for use in emerging solid-state lighting products: from halogen spotlights and home incandescent lamps for retail display to fluorescent tubes for commercial and industrial use.
According to reports, the C3120 series of chips in the development of high efficiency and simple design, the use of low cost advantages of diodes, to provide a more cost-effective solution. With an advanced boost-reverse topology design, plus quasi-resonant switching and innovative energy-saving technology, 80% efficiency and a power factor greater than 0.9 can easily meet emerging legal requirements.
The new control chip uses the primary side sensing technology unique to the British company, and reduces the need for optocouplers and other components. In addition to reduced raw material costs, and a separate solution for isolated power supplies for new lighting products, it also provides stable current control for LEDs with current errors within ±5%.
