Oryx Vision introduces a low-cost new lidar system for optional driving applications

Oryx Vision is a startup in Israel that develops solid state depth sensing solutions for autonomous vehicles. Recently, Oryx Vision announced that the company's depth sensing technology has been developed to meet the requirements of the owner's field of vision and surrounding image resolution in fully automated driving, and has built a completely different depth sensing solution for autonomous vehicles. And the cost of the sensor is controlled to a relatively low level, which is conducive to the popular use of this system in vehicles.

For expensive sensor systems, people's attitude can be said to be "love and hate." The lidar-mounted lidar system allows cars to capture millions of points per second, so they can quickly build around 3D images. However, the price of a lidar system is very high and is usually more expensive than the car itself. For example, Google's early high-performance sensing unit on a vehicle cost about $70,000; even the radar pioneer product Velodyne, which has a shorter field of view and a smaller detection range, is priced at thousands of dollars. For autonomous car manufacturers, what they really want is a cheap and reliable sensor system that can aid in the use of radar and cameras.

Oryx's "Coherent Optical Radar" was created for this purpose. Unlike conventional lidars that use photosensors to detect light, this radar system uses a nano-antenna that monitors electromagnetic waves, so it can capture more information. The system combines the characteristics of radar and lidar. It uses a principle similar to that of laser radar. It uses a laser to scan the road ahead of the vehicle, but in the feedback signal it uses the same wave as the radar instead of particles. This laser is a long-wave infrared laser, also known as a "terahertz laser." At this frequency the human eye cannot focus on the fiber, so Oryx can use higher levels of power than in the lidar design. In addition, long-wave infrared light is difficult to be absorbed by water, and it does not cause glare in bright light scenes. Therefore, it is not easily affected by bad weather conditions such as rain or fog, and overcomes the natural nature of laser radar and camera. defect.

It is understood that in order to develop such a sensing system that can overcome the shortcomings of traditional laser radar, Oryx spent six years researching and developing, and spent a year and a half to make the prototype into an usable imageable array. More importantly, the antennas used in this system are much cheaper than the Lidar systems currently used in many autonomous vehicles, and the cost of system imagers is comparable to that of mobile phones. According to company CEO Rani Wellingstein, this system uses very simple optics, so there are no steering, rotating and light components.

Oryx Vision's team currently has 20 people and the company plans to recruit talent in Israel, Silicon Valley, Germany and more. According to Wellingstein, the system they built was mainly for fully autonomous vehicles, not for driving assistance systems. “Many giants have begun to withdraw from the fully autonomous driving field, including Google, Apple, etc. But we believe that there are still many things that are still not done in terms of technology. The visual and decision-making capabilities of the system in autonomous driving are crucial, but it is Because the level of technology has not yet arrived, there is still a big gap between the two. So we think we must develop another more optimized sensing system to make up for this gap, which is what we are doing,” Wellingstein said.

Marine/RV Battery

The OREMA Marine/RV battery is an outstanding product in our range that consistently outperform traditional flooded, AGM batteries, and Gel batteries. They offer remarkable dual-purpose functionality, as they can provide both high energy for short-term starting and consistent power for longer-term cycling, making them versatile for various applications.

When it comes to starting performance, OREMA Marine/RV batteries excel by providing a high burst of current needed to start a vehicle's engine. This superior starting performance, even in harsh and demanding conditions, is a testament to their quality, reliability, and efficiency.

In terms of cycling performance, these batteries demonstrate exceptional ability. A battery's cycling performance refers to its capacity to go through multiple charge and discharge cycles without losing its ability to hold a charge. OREMA Marine/RV batteries, in this context, excel by retaining their capacity to hold and deliver power effectively even after numerous cycles. This superior cycling performance allows these batteries to deliver reliable power over a more extended period, making them ideal for applications that require consistent power delivery.

What sets OREMA Marine/RV batteries apart is their exceptional tolerance of a wide ambient temperature range. They remain unfazed and efficient, whether in scorching summer heat or freezing winter conditions. This temperature resilience makes them suitable for use in various climates and conditions, thereby ensuring uninterrupted and reliable performance no matter the weather.

Further bolstering their versatility and robustness is their high resistance to vibration. This is a vital feature in the boating, caravanning, and trucking world, where constant movement and bumps are part and parcel of the journey. Their vibration resistance ensures they can withstand such conditions and continue to operate optimally, making them a reliable power source in these challenging environments.

Another noteworthy feature is their capacity for Partial State of Charge (PSOC) operation. Unlike many traditional batteries that require full charging and discharging cycles, OREMA Marine/RV batteries can operate effectively even when partially charged. This flexibility means they can deliver power as needed, even if they haven't been fully charged, making them ideal for scenarios where full charging might not be possible.

OREMA Marine/RV batteries are versatile, as they are extensively used for a range of applications including Marine, Caravan, Boat, and Truck. This broad use-case potential further demonstrates their adaptability and efficiency. Their high performance in various vehicles and environments, their resilience in diverse weather conditions, and their ability to deliver power effectively irrespective of the charge level make them a superior choice for a wide range of applications.

The OREMA Marine/RV batteries stand as a testament to innovation, providing superior dual-purpose, starting, and cycling performance compared to traditional flooded, AGM, and Gel batteries. Their resilience against a wide range of ambient temperatures, vibrations, and ability to operate in a Partial State of Charge, combined with their broad use in Marine, Caravans, Boats, and Trucks, mark them as a remarkable choice in the realm of power solutions.
