Smartphones Lead China Telecom's New Target

Only four years after re-entering the mobile communications market, users of China Telecom's mobile services have grown from less than 30 million to nearly 160 million, and CDMA terminals have achieved over 7 million annual sales from 70 million to 70 million.

At the CDMA Terminal Industry Chain Conference, China Telecom disclosed that in 2012, the sales of China Telecom's CDMA terminals increased to 70 million. The number of various upstream partners in the CDMA terminal industry chain increased by more than 70 from 2011, bringing the total number to 483. In terms of number of users, when China Telecom just took over the C network, the size of CDMA subscribers was only 28 million, and in 2011 it was 129 million. By the end of 2012, the number of CDMA subscribers had reached 160 million. In terms of the number of terminal models, China Telecom has increased to 1,540 models since 2008.

In terms of industrial chain cooperation, 2 CDMA mobile phone companies, design companies, chip companies, and state-owned companies have 270 members in the industry chain in 2010. By the end of 2011, they had reached more than 300, and by 2012 had reached 420. Among them, in order to promote the popularity of 3G applications in 3G counseling stations.

It is understood that China Telecom has vigorously carried out the construction of counseling stations in the form of “build a superstructure and superimpose staff members” to effectively support and promote the scale development and traffic management of China Telecom’s mobile services.

At the meeting, Wang Xiaochu, chairman of China Telecom, proposed that the number of CDMA subscribers should reach around 200 million in 2013, and the huge terminal market brought by this will undoubtedly create a huge attraction for terminal manufacturers.

The continued rapid growth of the CDMA terminal industry chain in 2012 proved this. Taking Jin Li, an important manufacturer of domestic brands in the 2G era, as an example, Jin Li was once a big GSM mobile phone. After entering the smart phone field in 2012, China Telecom will soon become one of its operator channels, and later launch a series of CDMA mobile phones such as the C610 and the telecommunications version of the C700. Recently, Jin Li and China Telecom have jointly launched the flagship smart phone Jin Li C800.

In 2013, China Telecom hopes that more than 80% of CDMA mobile phones will be smart phones. The relevant person in charge of China Telecom also made it clear: "The overall trend of China Telecom's mobile phones in 2012 is an increase in the proportion of smart phones. We hope that manufacturers will attach great importance to this direction and focus on smart phones."
