Taiwan's Unity Opto said it expects LED chips to grow from 16% of total revenue to 30% in 2011. An article on the Digitimes website states that the company's LED chips are used in the US, Europe, Japan and China, but the company has no plans to sell such products under its own brand.
According to reports, Unity Opto has three main sources of revenue, namely large and medium-sized backlights, lighting equipment and auto parts. The automotive business currently accounts for 6%-8% of Unity Opto's revenue. The company pointed out that with the accelerated development of the Chinese market, the proportion of this business will also increase. In the first five months of 2010, Unity Opto's revenue increased by 118.75% from the same period of the previous year to NT$2.51 billion (US$77.713 million). The company expects sales in the second half of 2010 to increase by 50% over the first half of the year.
