For Windows 8, what you care about may not be just the release date and features. More people are concerned about their hardware requirements. If you plan to purchase a new computer in the near future, will there be a slight hesitation in fear that it will not be able to run Windows 8 released next year?
Now you don't have to worry about this problem. At today's WPC 2011 Microsoft Partner Conference, Tami Reller, vice president of the Windows division, talked about the system requirements for Windows 8:
"In the Windows 8 preview, we have talked about many times, Windows 8 will pass on the concept of Windows 7, keep the system requirements unchanged or even lower. Windows 8 can run on a large number of machines because of its hardware requirements and Windows 7 is the same or lower."
If the system requirements of Windows 8 are the same as those of Windows 7, this means that Windows 8 can run on the existing Windows Vista PC.
Let's review the system requirements for Windows 7:
- 1GHz processor;
- 1GB of memory (32 bits) or 2GB of memory (64 bits);
- 16GB of free hard disk space (32 bits) or 20GB of free hard disk space (64 bits);
— DirectX 9 graphics devices with WDDM 1.0 or higher drivers;
Microsoft pointed out: "We have built-in smart technology in Windows 8, it can automatically adjust and provide the best user experience based on the user's hardware. So, whether you are using the current PC, or buying a new one, Windows 8 can make the best use of hardware."
