On July 7th, Austriamicrosystems introduced the AS1115 LED driver for easy-to-use interface (UI), expanding its full line of LED driver products. The AS1115 combines display driver and keyboard scanning to provide a complete frontpanel solution that eliminates the need for a second microprocessor (μP) or other logic and discrete components to reduce bill of materials (Bill of Quantity and cost of Material; BOM).
Austrian Microelectronics has introduced the LED driver AS1115AS1115 combined with front panel activity control to drive 8 7-segment LED displays at 47mA per bit or 64 independent LEDs with 5mA per LED. It also includes an independent LED external resistor for easy current regulation. The AS1115 delivers ±3% accuracy, minimizing brightness variations between LEDs and LED modules, dramatically improving the quality of LED displays. The component also features a 4-bit PWM for full-area digital brightness control and independent dimming. In addition, the AS1115 provides readback for up to 16 buttons for a complete single-chip UI solution.
The AS1115 has built-in unique LED error detection. Design engineers can easily diagnose errors under normal operation through a simple and intuitive software operation interface. The solution detects any open or short circuits in multi-tasking 8x8 LED arrays and provides detailed error reports that indicate the location of damaged LEDs, significantly reducing test time during production.

The AS1115 operates from a single 2.7V-5.5V supply. The regulator has a minimum supply current of 0.6mA during operation and 200nA in shutdown mode. The AS1115 is connected via I2C, and an I2C bus can connect up to four components. .
