In recent years, the rapid development of mobile communication technology and handheld computers and their wide application in other fields will definitely have a profound impact on the manufacturing industry and bring significant opportunities and challenges to digital manufacturing.
Digital manufacturing under the network environment not only depends on the digitization and informationization of the upper management and design of the enterprise, but also on the digitization and informationization of the bottom floor of the workshop. We propose a new digital manufacturing model of human-machine collaboration based on mobile communication technology, which introduces wireless mobile communication technology and creates a human-centric distributed system that can fully utilize "human intelligence" and "machine intelligence" Man-machine collaboration mode. The shop floor digital assistant (Shop Floor PDA) and the new numerical control system form the two core links of this new manufacturing mode, and this article only discusses the latter.
New open CNC system using wireless communication technology
The new open CNC system using wireless communication technology is composed of two parts: one part is a mobile handheld controller, that is, a digital control PDA; the other part is installed on the machine tool to complete the traditional motion control and PLC functions, called embedded machine tool Controller. The mobile communication is realized between the two parts through Wi-Fi (802.11) or Bluetooth (Bluetooth) interface, and its structural block diagram is shown in Figure 1. In this mode, a large part of the functions of the current CNC system will be transferred to the CNC PDA. These functions mainly include the preparation, simulation and download of machining programs (including manual programming and download of huge machining programs from CAD / CAM workstations or desktop computers), machine tool adjustment, collection of machining data and machine tool status, and communication with workshop management / dispatch server Wait. The machine tool controller mainly performs real-time motion control and PLC functions. This new type of CNC is a real embedded system, which can greatly reduce the size and cost of the CNC system. At the same time, the CNC PDA has also completely changed the operation mode of CNC machine tools, from machine-centric to people-centric. The operator is no longer constrained by the machine tool, regardless of position or posture. The operation is more convenient and comfortable, and it is also easy to realize multi-machine operation by one person.
Because this specialized CNC PDA can go online via wireless LAN and Internet, it can be supported by the workshop or unit server and even the CAD / CAM technology center, thus greatly enhancing the functions of the CNC system. At the same time, because the CNC PDA is a universal CNC device, it can display the operation interface of various machine tools and control different CNC machine tools. Thus, an operator holding a CNC PDA and several CNC machine tools can form a human-machine cooperative processing unit. This human-centered processing unit supported by digital technology is more flexible and reliable than traditional flexible processing units. In addition, CNC PDA also has a local database management function, so it can be used to build a distributed database for workshop network manufacturing, making it a basic node for real-time access to field data in a distributed architecture.
1.1 The hardware structure of CNC PDA
The hardware architecture of CNC PDA based on IEEE802.11 is mainly composed of 32-bit embedded microprocessor, high-speed memory, FLSH electronic disk, wireless communication module, high-efficiency battery and LCD touch screen (as shown in Figure 2). In terms of hardware design, Intel Corporation's Strong ARM SA—1100 32-bit RISC microprocessor is used. It uses ARM ’s SA-1 core as its system core, with a clock frequency of up to 206MHz, which can provide powerful processing capabilities for CNC PDAs. In terms of communication, CNC PDA provides USB interface, serial interface and wireless communication module. Through these interfaces, you can easily communicate with the upper-level server or embedded machine tool controller. The wireless module uses Airgo's transceiver chipset that supports IEEE802.11a / b / g three wireless LAN standards. The chipset can support both OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) frequency conversion in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. In addition to IEEE802.11a / b, it also supports IEEE802.11g, which has just been adopted as a standard recently.
IEEE802.11g is a wireless LAN specification that uses the 2.4GHz band to achieve a maximum data transmission speed of 54Mbit / s. The chipset consists of a baseband chip and an RF chip. It supports IEEE802.11a using 5 GH z bandwidth, IEEE802.11b using 2.4GHz bandwidth, and IEEE802.11g wireless LAN. The baseband chip has IEEE802.11 MAC and PHY functions, and performs MIMO signal processing. At the same time, the chipset is embedded with IEEE802.11 security function accelerator and quality of service (QoS) guarantee circuit.
As shown in Figure 2, the main device of the CNC PDA is composed of a microprocessor and an IEEE802.11 chipset. The IEEE802.11 chipset accepts control commands from the host, and after processing by the baseband controller, commands the wireless transceiver to emit radio waves with a bandwidth of 2.4-5.0 GHz. The connection between the IEEE802.11 chipset and the host can be via USB, MINI PCI, CARDBUS, thereby eliminating the need for external bridge devices. The upper layer communication protocol of HCI (Host Controller Interface) is handled by the host, and the lower layer communication protocol is handled by the baseband layer chip and the wireless transceiver chip in the chipset. The CNC PDA can communicate with the embedded machine controller 802.11 wireless network card for data transmission and control of the CNC machine tool.
Because the main system management functions, human-computer interaction and CNC programming are transferred to the CNC PDA, the machine tool control part of the new CNC is much simplified than the traditional CNC equipment, and is similar to a motion controller and PLC. Its hardware and software configuration mainly meets the requirements of real-time control of the servo system and I / O functions of the machine tool, but it must increase the functional module of wireless communication. In hardware, the architecture of embedded industrial PC based on 104 bus is adopted. This architecture not only fully meets the above requirements, but also has the characteristics of small size, compact structure, ruggedness and low cost, which is an ideal choice.
